Fly Fishing Podcast Essentials
Maybe you have a long drive to get where you're going this Christmas. Maybe you got a new gadget. Maybe you need to check and take a breather from your weird intoxicated uncle telling everyone (over and over) who he voted for. What you need is some noise cancelling headphones and maybe listen to a podcast or three.
Here's a list of fly fishing and outdoors podcasts that are worth taking up a few gigabytes on your device.
ANCHORED WITH APRIL VOKEY
April started this podcast in 2014 and since then has cataloged a series of excellent and in depth interviews with many in fly fishing covering steelhead, conservation, and even fiberglass fly rods.
BARELY LIVE SESSIONS
Not always about fly fishing but the Flood Tide Co. crew can always make you laugh. Not always safe for listening at the office or around children.
FIELD & STREAM ADVENTURES
This series of seven podcasts cover a trip by Field & Stream writers and photographers through Canada’s Quetico Provincial Park. These podcasts had me mapping out my own paddle and fly fishing trip in the area.
FISH ON THE BRAIN
Tim Evans of Fish On The Brain has it figured out. Go fly fishing and record an interview with the guide while you're there.
FLY FISHING AFTER DARK
The Oak Chill crew hit the mics almost weekly for NSFW conversations on fly fishing, conservation, beer reviews, and anything else that comes up.
ORVIS FLY FISHING GUIDE PODCAST
Want to learn about fly fishing? Want to learn more about fly fishing techniques? Places to go? Flies? Equipment? Tom Rosenbauer has a great style on the microphone and these podcasts cover a lot of ground in each episode.
THE DIRTBAG DIARIES
Not typically fly fishing related at all but there are some stellar stories and experiences shared on this podcast.
THE ITINERANT ANGLER
Zach Matthews has been podcasting before podcasting was even a thing in fly fishing. The first episode dates back to 2006 so you have a lot of catching up to do. There's even an episode where Zach and I talk fiberglass fly rods from several years ago.
THE VENTURING ANGLER
Tim Harden of The Venturing Angler has been putting together some great guide interviews for several years now and these are worth a listen.
