Restoration of a Hillman Imp Californian car
The 1967 Hillman Imp Californian took some 24 months to restore,
The car is now close to complete, the fitting of new disc brakes on the front may be the next job to do, the discs are in stock, so an easy job to fit.
This is how the front disc sets look when fitted to the Imp car, this one has extra length studs to accept Supalite alloy rims, which were fitted on a race imp in 2012.
The calipers are Ford and suit the Imp when it has the 13" rims fitted.
With the Imp Sport engine conversion this 875cc engine gives a good acceleration over the standard Imps engine.

Imp Californian on the road again
This is true and in more ways than one.
I took a drive up to the Apostle Battery, its near Llandudno.
This was a very important gun position in WW2, manned by ladies (manned?) they had 9.2" guns with a range of around 33 miles.

This is I assume the lead into a store for the cannons shells?
Yesterday the car was loaded onto this trailer and taken to the motor trimmers for the new carpets and head liner .

The Hillman Imp Californian in South Africa
Todays pictures and ahead of the long weekend holidays .
This is one of the many Hillman Imp restorations I have been involved with.
The car was made in Scotland in 1967 then restored in South Africa over the last 21 months.

The Hillman Imp Californian visits the Bay Harbour Market
Hout Bay, Western Cape, South Africa.
With the closure of so many roads due to the massive fires in the Western Cape,plus todays Argus Cycle Tour on today I took the Californian out for its longest drive since I bought it back again some seven months ago.
The car has been very much rebuilt new brakes all round, the engine was stripped and checked, the steel rims were upgraded to 13" and with Firestone tires on now.
Very much a rolling restoration but it carries a licence disc and its quite legal, as the lights all work as does the hooter and even the cabins cooling fan, mind you with no window glass fitted right now there is plenty of air circulation !
The car is dated February 3rd 1967 and was one of the rare export cars, this one went to Mozambique.
